First CG of the new insect boss
About a year ago, when I was in the planning stages for PPG, one of the things I knew would give me trouble would be to decide on a art style for the CG's of the game.
I knew I wanted to make a game with simple graphics and with the aesthetic of 8-bit/16-bit games, but what I really needed to figure out was how to combine my limited skills with a decent enough art.
What I was able to come up with was very simple line art, in a way that I would be able to fix and transform in paint.net at will, flat colors and simple shading to reduce complexity/work time and simplistic backgrounds.
I was satisfied with the end result. But my art is still amateur level, and this type of art style is not the most popular with people. The truth is that when it comes to erotic games, art wins over gameplay 90% of the time.
For my next project I'm already considering a different style, perhaps more similar to the usual 2d digital art. Of course, I'll have to also improve my skills while doing so. Then again, I could also improve on this specific style that I already developed, with better lines and so on. We'll see. The fun part of this creative process really is deciding on how best to portray your creativity while being conscious of your own limitations.
That said, the CG's for the add-on are in the same style for consistency. And it's not like I'll simply abandon this particular style either. Maybe in a future project it may fit, and I'll try to keep improving it.

I think for this style of game, this style of art looks pretty good! Then again, when it comes to ero-games like this, I'm usually not super interested in static CG to begin with, I have a heavy preference for games with sprite/pixel animations. So whereas a game like, say, Monster Girl Quest is certainly fun, I'll always prefer games like Demon's Sperm because it has actual animation. And on that topic, your pixel animations are really nice, especially considering this was your first attempt! I'm really excited to see where you take things from here!
ReplyDeleteI'm certainly hoping you maintain sprites and animations in your next project, whatever it may be, especially in the case of vore scenes. Vore is one of my biggest kinks (though I know I'm in the minority), and it's really, really nice to see vore animations in a game that follow all the way through to the actual digestion. Most games just stop once the girl is inside the person/monster, so it's always great to see animations or CG take the next step~
