Project Platformer - Basic Information and goals


WIP - Project MKL


In terms of overall design, I'm aiming to make something like a middle ground between a simple platformer (that is, one where you simply progress left to right, and from level 1 to level 2, etc) and a full metroidvania.

There will be a main hub area and from there the player can teleport to the initial levels and explore them in any order they like. The levels themselves won't be interconnected like in a true metroidvania, although I could make a few exceptions like secret entrances and areas.

In order to open up more levels and progress in the game, the player will have to find items and solve puzzles. Sometimes a boss will have to be defeated first, other times just collecting the right items will open up more areas.

Sorry for the silence this past month. I had anticipated that I would be swamped with irl work close to the end of the year, but it ended up demanding more of my time than I expected.

Good news is, I'm finally back to resume work on the game! Also I'll continue to post regular dev updates on the blog, and I'll try to make at least 1 update per week.

PPG on steam, and a focus on the new game - PPGはSTEAM上にあります。 今私は新しいゲームに集中することができます


Steam now allows ero games, believe it or not!

Lately I have been quite busy with my day job, which hampers what little time I have to work on games. Additionally, whatever little time I got this past month or so was dedicated to working on the recent releases of PPG on Nutaku and now on Steam.

Originally I had no intention whatsoever to publish the game on steam because, well, it really didn't make any sense to. But lo and behold, steam announces that now its OK to publish uncensored games there, and given how in the distant future I want to also make non-hentai games and publish them on steam, I thought it would be a great learning experience to go trough steam's publishing process.

With PPG now just released there, I'm glad I took that decision and whether the game sells 10 copies or 1000 copies there matter little, because the value I got from learning even more about game publishing in general is priceless.

I was really busy this past month or so, which means progress was very slow in the new project. Also I had to dedicate a decent amount of time for the upcoming release of PPG on Nutaku and Steam.

I'm working towards a small prototype with basic gameplay and at this point I'm testing different colors/contrast for the background and other elements. I'm also trying to decide on an artstyle for the floor tiles and objects.

After that I'll probably work on basic attack moves, make the barrels breakable and maybe add a simple enemy.

Testing Unity 2018 - Unity 2018テスト


Playing with a simple side scrolling game concept

Unity 3D has come a long way when it comes to creating 2D games. While originally it had no official support for such games and if you wanted to create them you had to use unconventional hacks and other tricks, now every new version brings more improvements and 2D support which helps a lot when you're creating those types of games.

Above you can see a simple prototype I did while I test some of the new features of the tool. When it comes to platforming it is best to have a good combo of tight controls and smooth movement, so I'm also playing around with the movement speed and jump force to try and get the feel of a game I want to make.

I tried to balance the difficulty a bit better with the new levels, and for the most part the majority of the feedback I received was that while it is still challenging, the difficulty is at least more manageable now. The new bosses at first may appear difficult, but they have patterns that once you memorize them it is easy to play around.

All the bulges are in place and ready to do some lovin' to Pixie!

At this point in time there are only some minor adjustments to do and a final debugging pass on the game, so I'm glad to say that version 1.2 will finally be released next week! With a total of 10 months or so of main development, then 2 more months for the free add-on, I'm very happy to say that I somehow managed to publish my own indie hentai game in a single year!

I knew I wanted to make a game with simple graphics and with the aesthetic of 8-bit/16-bit games, but what I really needed to figure out was how to combine my limited skills with a decent enough art.

Work on the CG sets is almost complete, so as I transition into making the final adjustments to the new bonus stages I'll talk a bit about how was my planning process for creating the game's original levels.

The initial scope was simple: create 5 different stages with 7 levels each. Each stage would have a specific overall theme and gimmick. Very early I had decided to have those exact number so as to keep the goal of finishing development realistic for an amateur game developer. While on paper this plan sounds simple enough, the execution could have been better.

紙に書かれている間、この計画は簡単に聞こえますが、実行はより良いものになりました。

Development of the 2nd boss is almost complete. All that is left now is its ero animation. Altough from some early gameplay testing I'm doing, I think I made the boss a bit too dificult, so I'll also take some time to tone it down.

In other news, due to unforeseen consequences I had make a small change to the circle's name. This change is now applied to all platforms and channels, altough the google search takes a week or so until it updates the results regarding the blog.

This cute demon girl will have 2 different animations: yuri and soft vore. The overall theme for her was of a goth loli mixed with rocker girl. She is a type of demon called "Dream Eater" and she is residing in Pixie's nightmares.

このかわいい悪魔の女の子には2種類のアニメーションがあります:百合と丸呑み。
彼女の全体的なテーマはロックガールと混じったゴスロリでした。
彼女は「Dream Eater」と呼ばれる悪魔の一種で、彼女はPixieの悪夢に住んでいる。

The Avatar of Lust, Mega B! - メガB! 欲望のアバター自身!

I've always wanted to make a funny joke character in one of my games. I really enjoy the type, sometimes goofy, sometimes 4th wall breaking. Some classic examples: Ultros of Final Fantasy 6, Dan from Street Fighter Alpha, Tofu from Resident Evil 2, just to name a few. So I tought why the hell not make one right now on my first game?!

I'm happy to announce that today PPG is finally released!

At the moment there are 2 versions of the game:

  • On itch.io is the english uncensored version.
  • On dlsite/maniax is the japanese censored version.

There are demo versions at both pages that you can freely download to check for system compatibility, try out the gameplay and check out the sample animations and CG!

Amateur tips and tricks about art and sprites - Part 1

Today I'll talk a bit about some tips and tricks that made me, an utter art newbie, manage to draw some at least presentable 2D sprites and art. In this first part I will quickly do some broad strokes on the topics, and then in the following parts I'll go into detail about some of them and what I specifically used to make PPG. Now let me make it very clear, I'm 100% an amateur and I know it. This will be "by a beginner, for beginners". All I want to do here is to maybe inspire other beginners like me that think they will never be able to draw anything that they definetly can if they have the dedication. Let's do this.

Go with simple and free. I mean, what are we even going to do with photoshop or other professional tools? I mean sure you can use it if you're confortable enough with it, but if you're trully an amateur, you won't know how to use 90% of its functionality.

Hello!

Just a minor update regarding the status of the game's release:

The itch.io page is set-up and ready to go. This is the english uncensored version.

With dlsite, we are in the "back and forth" stage via e-mails. From the last e-mails they sent me, I get the feeling that they are in the final stages of reviewing the game, so hopefully I get a positive reply soon enough to be able to release simultaneously this week. But if something comes up with dlsite, as I mentioned before I'll just go ahead and release it on itch.io this Friday.

Pixie sprite concept based on pokemon games

First off, I somehow managed to delete all comments on the blog. I tought I was simply removing the history of notifications of comments, but nope, deleted the actual comments themselves, because I'm just dumb like that.


I apologize for that, but know that I read them all, and I'm thankful for the feedback and tips you gave me. You know who you are. Also, it won't happen again, promise.

Now I wan't to talk a bit about Pixie's sprite in PPG. When I decided to make a game based off bomberman, there came the problem of choosing how to depict the main character sprite in the game. The first most obvious answer would be to go with bomberman's "chibi" style:

Pixie Panic Garden - Dev Update #2

Previously on AMC's The Lazy Dev Who Didin't Make A Blog Soon Enough And Now Has To Furiously Post To Catch Up... Dead?

I said that I would go into more detail about the things that I have to do before releasing PPG, so here we go. The bellow list will actually be a reflection of the bullet list I used throughout the development of PPG, which means that with those things out of the way, release is imminent.


Pixie Panic Garden - Dev Update #1

OK, this is awkward.

Since I waited so long to create a blog for the game (and for my stuff in general really), the very first dev update for the game is... that it is actually finished!

Must be the fastest ero game ever, developed in the smallest amount of time!?... I wish. In the next posts I will go into more detail about the development of PPG, like how long it took, the tools I used, design ideas, cut content, etc, but for now let's just say that it took a... decent amount of time, for its size.
